EPA End-of-Life Vehicles Infographic
The EPA has published a new infographic on Ireland’s End-of-Life vehicles. Some of the highlights featured in the infographic include:
- Some 150,800 scrap vehicles (end-of-life vehicles (ELVs) were treated in Ireland in 2019.
- Ireland achieved full compliance with the EU reuse, recycling and recovery targets for endof-life vehicles (ELVs) in 2019, but by a narrow margin. We must continue to improve the
- reuse, recycling and recovery of ELVs as part of our transition to a circular economy.
- Recycled ELVs are part of the circular economy, as dismantled parts are reused or recycled and new cars and vans can be manufactured with recycled metal and non-metals.
- If ELVs are not treated at an authorised facility, hazardous materials (e.g. oils, fluids) can pollute land, rivers and groundwater.
- If ELVs are not recycled, the European economy loses millions of tonnes of valuable resources such as metals that can be reused, recycled and recovered as part of the circular economy.
- You are required by law to have your end-of-life vehicle deposited at a vehicle recycling facility (called an Authorised Treatment Facility or ATF). These will accept your vehicle free of charge but there might be a fee for collection.
Find your nearest recycling facility at www.elves.ie or through your local authority.
